Olive’s choice of calf leather is a luxurious, super soft leather, which has been chosen due to it's hardwearing nature and durability. We use full grain leather - it’s the most expensive leather as it is made from the top layer of the cow hide. It retains all of the texture of the original hide and is therefore flexible and more durable.

All bags have been sprayed with a protector spray, but we recommend you use a protector spray regularly. We recommend Collonil Waterstop Spray, which can be purchased here. We also recommend a solvent-free gentle gel to improve the water resistance. It can help leather to resist dirt and moisture. Collonil Leather Gel can be purchased here.

Any spots of water or rain can be gently wiped into the leather, rather than allowing droplets to just sit on the surface. The water marks will dry.

Be careful of pigment transfer from dark coloured clothing, especially dark denim.

Oil, grease and ink are difficult to remove. Fresh stains such as spilled liquids or food should be cleaned up immediately with a damp cloth or leather cleaner. Slight surface markings can usually be rubbed out with a little bit of pressure from your finger.

Vegetable tanning is an age-old tradition. These full grain leathers have no synthetic covering and are carefully finished by hand. Due to the natural tannins used, vegetable tanned leathers develop and antique over time, enhancing the authentic look and feel of the leather.

Be aware that the leathers are dyed and as such for the first few wears they may transfer a small amount of colour onto light clothing. This is a typical characteristic of vegetable tanned leathers and will mean that your bag ages beautifully.

All of our bags are sprayed with a protective and waterproof coating before sold, but we recommend you use a protective spray or neutral protective cream regularly.

The handbags in vegetable tanned leather come with a mini leather balm made from cod oil and beeswax. This balm is not a preventative, but helps to remove scuff marks and scratches. This balm can be repurchased in a small or larger size.

Solid brass - Over time, brass may darken as the metal oxidises in the atmosphere. Should you wish to polish, you can use any readily available brass polish - just ensure you cover the leather with a protective cloth when doing so.

Gun Metal - Try to refrain from keeping your bag with Gun Metal hardware in direct sunlight. This metal is Black Coated Copper, and sunlight can cause the black coating to tarnish slightly over time.
